Shared Laundry Room Protocol

In addition to thoroughly sanitizing and disinfecting our shared laundry facilities multiple times a day, there are some additional precautions Residents should take to mitigate the chance of transmission.

Keep Your Distance

First and foremost, be sure to maintain a six-foot distance from others at all times. If there are too many people inside the shared space to make this possible, please wait for others to leave before entering.

Similarly, we ask that Resident Members do not wait for their loads to finish in the laundry room. Instead, Residents should set a timer and wait in their suite while their laundry is in the washer or dryer.

Use Protective Measures

Canadian Health Officials are encouraging people to wear disposable gloves when doing laundry, if possible. If you don't have access to disposable gloves, be sure to use hand sanitizer and wash your hands as soon as you get back to your suite.

The virus is most likely to live on hard surfaces, doorknobs, handles, folding areas, and inside and outside the machines. Wipe everything down with disinfectant before and after each use. Officials also strongly recommend disinfecting your clothing hampers before placing clean clothes into it and after returning to your suite. Residents should wait to fold their clothes at home, too, to avoid touching tabletops.

Washing your Laundry

The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention recommends washing and drying your items at the warmest appropriate water setting and dry items completely. They also ask that people do not shake dirty laundry due to the possibility that virus particles could become airborne.
